Today we’re speaking about Christmas time and other promotional seasons you can take advantage off with your website.

Have you ever been to a website where you’ve seen specials and promotions for Valentine's Day, or Labour Day, or Christmas and Easter, all those promotional seasons?
I’m sure you’ve seen a website and they’re taking advantage of those and created a site to replicate that theme in terms of design, but also promotions and specials.

So, what I like people to do, who have ecommerce websites, is take advantage of the current season that the retail community is in. For example, Christmas time is always a big time of the year. It’s the biggest retail time of the year in New Zealand here.

So, it’s important you make your website adapt to that season. I see so many websites that sit stale with the same banner from February this year and at Christmas time they don’t look any different. They may still get a few sales, but at the end of the day, they are not taking advantage of the season, therefore they’re not getting the sales they could and therefore not making the revenue they could.

It’s very important you take advantage of these times of the year.

First things first, for Christmas for example, you can decorate your website in Christmas paraphernalia, be it tinsel or red bows. Be creative but don’t make it messy.

Theme the site so when people come to your website they feel fresh and it’s relevant to the season. Especially if your retailing to consumers, this is where it’s most important. If you’re business to business, maybe it’s not so important.

If your target audience is consumers, they’re likely going to be buying from you for Christmas. So, it would be silly not to have your website at least mention something about Christmas somewhere.

As I said, paraphernalia, have banners on your homepage that market some Christmas orientated products. Things that are at least good as gifts. So people can click on them, buy them, check out, see ya later.

Another thing you can do on the website is promote something related to Christmas, if you’re a shop that sells chocolate or food products you could promote a recipe for Christmas. You could even brand it with your company name. Like Aunty Joe's Christmas Cake. People can then click on it, it will be a basic page with a photo of the end result, the ingredients that can be linked to the products that are relevant and that they can buy on your website.

You can then share that with people, you’re getting in the spirit so to speak.

For example, if you’re a toy shop, you may be selling some Christmas toys that are related to Santa, or a sleigh, or reindeer, whatever. Think of things that are relevant to your business and can be correlated with the Christmas season.

After you have the website prepared for that season, it’s then a good idea to start promoting it via Facebook, do a few boosted posts, put some features up of the product, or of your recipe, or the featured item. People on those platforms will then be aware of it. You need people to get driven to your site to be able to find out more about it.

You can also target people in certain brackets, you can target age groups or gender. You can get a specific audience. You can also do the old fashioned method of printing flyers out. Put a coupon code on them and just take them to places that are relevant to your audience. Christmas parties or school events.

Those are a few ideas guys, for promoting your site at this time of the year.

Obviously you can apply these tips to all other times of the year too.

I hope that was helpful, it was very brief but informative I hope.
